Resolution
- Resolution is the number of pixels contained on a display monitor, expressed in terms of dpi (dots per pixel) on the horizontal axis and on the vertical axis.
- The quality of image is depends on the resolution and the size of the monitor.
Pixel
- Pixel is smallest unit of digital image.
For example :
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
Pixel Dimension :
height = 1536 pixel
width = 2048 pixel
Document size:
height: 5.12 inches
width: 6.83 inches
Resolution = 300 pixel/inch
Document size:
height: 21.33 inches
width: 28.44 inches
Resolution = 72 pixel/inch
An image that is 2048 pixels in width and 1536 pixels in height has a total of 2048×1536 = 3,145,728 pixels or 3.1 megapixels. One could refer to it as 2048 x 1536 or a 3.1-megapixel image. Or, you can think of it as a very low quality image (72 pixel per inch) if printed at about 28.44 inches wide, or a very good quality (300 pixel per inch) image if printed at about 6.83 inches wide.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 :
size : 9.7 inch, It refers that the diagonal is 9.7 inch.
Resolution : 1536 * 2048 , It refers that the tablet has width of 1536 pixel and height of 2048 pixels i.e 3,145,728 pixels screen resolution.
Dimension : 9.34 in height x 6.65 in width x 0.22 in thickness
Conclusion :
- IF resolution is higher image is appear smaller. And If resolution is smaller resolution is higher.
- If camera is said to be 5MP , its resolution will be nearly equal to 5 million pixel.
